The authors deal with finding Levi-flat hypersurfaces with prescribed compact boundary in \(\mathbb{C}^n\), for \(n>2\). They study the necessary local compatibility conditions needed for a \(2\)-codimenional real submanifold \(S\subset \mathbb{C}^n\) to bound a Levi-flat hypersurface, at least locally. First, they remark that, near a \(CR\) point, \(S\) must be nowhere minimal. Then, they define the elliptic points and remark that elliptic flat points are always isolated. The authors take the local necessary conditions as assumptions and obtain global conclusions. Theorem 1.3. Let \(S\subset \mathbb{C}^n\) be a compact connected smooth real \(2\)-codimenional submanifold such that the following hold: (i) \(S\) is nonminimal at every \(CR\) point; (ii) every complex point of \(S\) is flat and elliptic and there exists at least one such point, (iii) \(S\) does not contain complex submanifolds of dimension \(n-2\). Then \(S\) is a topological sphere with two complex points and there exist a smooth submanifold \(\widetilde S\) and a Levi-flat \((2n-1)\)-subvariety \(\widetilde M\) in \(\mathbb{R}\times \mathbb{C}^n\) (i.e., \(\widetilde M\) is Levi-flat in \(\mathbb{C}\times \mathbb{C}^n\)), both contained in \([0,1]\times \mathbb{C}^n\) such that \(\widetilde S =d\widetilde M\) in the sense of currents and the natural projection \(\pi : [0,1]\times \mathbb{C}^n\to \mathbb{C}^n\) restricts to a diffeomorphism between \(\widetilde S\) and \(S\). Some consequences with a more precise information and a uniqueness result are obtained in Theorems 1.4 and 1.5.
