The aim of this text is the exposition of some topics dealing with the application of data envelopment analysis to preferential voting, where the latter term is understood in the broader sense of ranked voting. The book has two distinct parts. The first part (Chapters 1--4) briefly introduces voting theory, DEA, fuzzy logic and the application of DEA to preferential voting. The exposition is not self-contained. The rest of the book deals with special topics, focusing on the contributions of some of the authors. Chapter 5 considers ranking methods to discriminate between efficient candidates resulting from DEA-based aggregation models in preferential voting. These models evaluate weights in a way that favours each individual candidate, which leads to large efficient sets. Chapter 6 handles models where there are differences in the value of votes. Chapter 7 considers models where the support of some voters has a negative effect on the evaluation of candidates. Hybrid models incorporating methods of DEA-based preferential voting into multi-attribute decision making are the subject of Chapter 8. The same idea of combining procedures appears in Chapter 9, where preferential voting models with fuzzy logic are presented. Finally, a list of economic and social preferential voting applications is provided in Chapter 10.
