The authors introduce a volume-preserving mean curvature flow for free boundary hypersurfaces in a ball. Such volume-preserving flows were first considered by \textit{P. Guan} and \textit{J. Li} [Int. Math. Res. Not. 2015, No. 13, 4716--4740 (2015; Zbl 1342.53090)]. They have long time existence and converge smoothly to a free boundary spherical cap when the initial hypersurface in the ball is star-shaped. The isoperimetric problem for free boundary hypersurfaces in a ball is discussed using this flow.
