In this paper the problem of the numerical approximation of a two-dimensional fluid-structure interaction problem is addressed. The main attention is paid to the different possibilities how to evaluate the aerodynamic forces acting on the structure. In the framework of the finite element method three possibilities of aerodynamical forces computations are tested including the direct extrapolation from the interior of the fluid domain, the local reconstruction and the weak reformulation in an integral form. The experimental rate of convergence for the considered methods is investigated on the benchmark of flow around cylinder for the drag and lift coefficients confirming the expected order of accuracy. Further, the influence of the evaluation of the aerodynamical forces on the critical/flutter velocity is discussed.
