In the paper under review all topological spaces are assumed to be Hausdorff. Recall that a topological space is \emph{feebly compact} if every infinite family of non-empty open sets has an accumulation point. This is a generalization of pseudocompactness: a Tychonoff topological space is feebly compact if and only if it is pseudocompact. Various strengthenings of feeble compactness have been studied by several authors. For example, a topological space \(X\) is \emph{selectively sequentially feebly compact} if, for every countable sequence \(( U _n ) _{ n < \omega } \) of non-empty open sets of \(X\), there is a sequence \(( x _n ) _{ n < \omega } \) having a convergent subsequence and such that \(x_n \in U_n\), for every \( n < \omega\). Assume that \(G\) is a compact metrizable topological group, \(X\) is a Tychonoff topological space and \(C_p(X,G)\) is dense in \(G^X\). Recall that \(C_p(X,G)\) is the topological space of all the continuous functions from \(X\) to \(G\) with the pointwise convergence topology. The authors characterize those spaces \(X\) and \(G\) as above such that \(C_p(X,G)\) is pseudocompact. They also consider stronger properties such as sequential pseudocompactness, selective pseudocompactness and the Frolík property. In this way, the authors partially solve a problem raised by A. Dorantes-Aldama and D. Shakhmatov. The key to the main results is a deep study of the connections between \(C_p(X,G)\) and various kinds of generalized \(\Sigma\)-products. The paper is clearly written, rich in examples and reasonably self-contained. It is of interest to every topologist dealing with generalizations of pseudocompactness and \(\Sigma\) products.
