The author constructs a set with different upper and lower box dimension, which is invariant under an expanding toral endomorphism. This is the first example of a dynamical invariant set for which the box dimension does exist. For invariant sets of conformal dynamical system it is known that upper and lower box dimension and Hausdorff dimension coincide. So far we had examples of invariant sets of non conformal systems for which Hausdorff and box dimension do not coincide, but the box dimension of these sets exists. I think that the construction presented in the paper is of great importance for the dimension theory of dynamical systems.
