A subgroup \(H\) of a group \(G\) is permutable (in \(G\)) if for every \(K \leq G\) the subset \(HK\) is a subgroup or equivalently \(HK=KH\). A PT-group is a group in which the relation of being a permutable subgroup is transitive. The main aim of the paper under review is to show that a periodic linear group is a soluble PT-group if and only if each subgroup of a Sylow subgroup is permutable in the corresponding Sylow normalizer (for a fixed prime \(p\), the latter condition is denoted by \(\mathcal{X}_{p}\)). As a by-product, the authors obtain (among other results) a characterization of periodic linear \(\mathcal{X}_{p}\)-groups in terms of pronormality (see Theorem 4.11) which will allow them to demonstrate, in some cases, the property \(\mathcal{X}_{p}\) is inherited by subgroups.
