The authors study existence, nonexistence and uniqueness of nontrivial nonnegative and bounded solutions for the class of nonlinear integral equation \[ Q(f(x))=\int_{-\infty}^\infty K(x,t)\;f(t)\;dt,\qquad x\in\mathbb{R}, \] with symmetric and positive kernel. In the above integral equation, the nonlinearity is a monotonic and convex function on the positive part of the real axis. The class of the integral equations under consideration, with various particular representations of the kernel and of the nonlinearity, has several applications in mathematical physics and mathematical biology. Finally, the authors give some concrete examples satisfying all conditions of the proved statements.
