Let \(M\) be a compact oriented \(3\)-manifold with tours boundary and \(\chi(M)\) be the character variety of irreducible representations \(\pi_1(M)\rightarrow SL_2(\mathbb{C})\). For a fixed simple closed curve \(\mu\) on \(\partial M,\) the authors define the adjoint Reidemeister torsion of \(M,\) \(\tau_{\mu}(M;\rho),\) as a meromorphic function on each \(1\)-dimensional component of \(\chi(M)\). Suppose that the character variety \(\chi(M)\) consists of \(1\)-dimensional components and that the interior of \(M\) carries a hyperbolic structure of finite volume. For a generic \(c \in \mathbb{C}\), Conjecture \(1.1,\) implied by the relation between quantum field theory and the adjoint Reidemeister torsion, states that the adjoint Reidemeister torsion of \(M\) satisfies a certain vanishing identity with respect to the trace function. In the present paper, the authors are interested in the knot exterior of the connected sum of knots among \(3\)-manifolds with torus boundary whose character varieties have high-dimensional components satisfying the conditions required in Conjecture \(1.1.\) Let \(M\) be the knot exterior of the connected sum of knots \(K_1,\ldots,K_n\) in \(S^3\) and \(\rho: \pi_1(M)\rightarrow SL_2(\mathbb{C})\) be a given irreducible representation satisfying conditions \((12)\) and \((13).\) The authors define the adjoint Reidemeister torsion of \(M.\) Then they consider the connected sum \(K\) of knots \(K_1,\ldots,K_n\) in \(S^3\) satisfying the condition \((C).\) Assuming that \(\chi_\mu^c(M)\) is the pre-image of \(c \in \mathbb{C}\) under the trace function \(\chi(M)\rightarrow \mathbb{C}\), the authors show that there is a natural way to define the adjoint Reidemeister torsion of \(K\) such that it is locally constant on \(\chi_\mu^c(M).\) Finally they prove the adjoint Reidemeister torsion of \(K\) satisfies the vanishing identity in Conjecture \(1.1\) if each \(K_i\) does so.
