The authors develop a computational scheme for electrostatic interactions in dielectrically mismatched nanostructures with axial symmetry. The calculation procedure goes through the computation of image charges induced at the interface between materials of different dielectric response. To achieve the required accuracy in the estimation of the self-polarization potential, the authors establish a framework based on the interpenetration of different discretization grids, which minimizes computer requirements and time consumption. The procedure has been employed to illustrate the influence of the dielectric environment on different properties of colloidal nanorods. Numerical simulations illustrate the results in two different frameworks: (i) excitons in nanorods, and (ii) curvature effects on image potential states.
