Let \(G\) be a finite group and let \(\psi(G)=\sum_{g \in G} o(g)\) be the sum of the orders of all elements of \(G\). Denote by \(C_{n}\) the cyclic group of order \(n\). The authors [J. Algebra 511, 215--226 (2018; Zbl 1436.20034)] proved that if \(G\) is a non-cyclic group of order \(n\), then \(\psi(G) \leq \frac{7}{11}\psi(C_{n})\) and, if \(n\) is odd, \(\psi(G) \leq \frac{7}{11}\psi(C_{n})\). Furthermore, if \(\psi(G) \geq \frac{1}{6.88} \psi(C_{n})\), then \(G\) is solvable (Theorem 3). They also conjectured that if \(G\) is a non-solvable group of order \(n\), then \(\psi(G)/\psi(C_{n}) \leq \psi(A_{5})/\psi(C_{60})=\frac{211}{1617}\) (this conjecture was proved in [\textit{M. Baniasad Azad} and \textit{B. Khosravi}, J. Algebra 516, 115--124 (2018; Zbl 1446.20037)]). The paper under review reports the above-mentioned results and provides a survey of some other results by the authors concerning the function \(\psi(G)\).
