A system of integer translates of a function \(\psi\in L^2(\mathbb{R})\setminus\{0\}\) is known to be \(\ell^2(\mathbb{Z})\)-linearly independent if the associated periodization function is almost everywhere strictly positive. The only known proof of this result is based on certain properties of the space of functions with uniformly bounded partial Fourier sums. The author shows that one of these properties does not hold for the analogue of this space in higher dimensions and square summability. Therefore, this method of proof cannot be applied to solve the problem for integer translates of functions \(\psi\in L^2(\mathbb{R}^d)\setminus\{0\}\) for dimensions \(d \geq 2\) or \(\ell^2(\mathbb{Z})\)-linearly independence of Gabor systems \(\{T_k M_\ell\psi : k,\ell \in \mathbb{Z}^{2d}\}\) with \(\psi\in L^2(\mathbb{R}^d)\) and dimensions \(d \geq 1\).
