Each partition \(\lambda\) has a Ferrers-Young diagram and each node has a hook number. The node in row \(\ell\) and column \(j\) has hook number \(h(l, j ) := \lambda_{\ell}-\ell+\lambda'_{j}-j+1\), where \(\lambda'_{j}\) j is the number of nodes in column \(j\). These numbers play significant roles in combinatorics, number theory, and representation theory. For example, the recent Bloch-Okounkov theory of \(q\)-brackets [\textit{S. Bloch} and \textit{A. Okounkov}, Adv. Math. 149, No. 1, 1--60 (2000; Zbl 0978.17016)] is a significant addition to these fields, and some of the most striking examples involve hook numbers. For each \(a\in\mathbb C\) and \(t\in \mathbb N\), the authors define \(f_{a,t}:\mathcal P\to\mathbb C\) by \[ f_{a,t}:=t^{a-1}\sum_{h\in\mathcal H_t(\lambda)} \frac{1}{h^a}, \] where \(\mathcal H_t(\lambda)\) is the multiset of hook numbers which are multiples of \(t\). The paper of \textit{G.-N. Han} and \textit{K. Q. Ji} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 363, No. 2, 1041--1060 (2011; Zbl 1227.05040)] shows that the Eichler integrals \[ \mathcal E_{2-a}(z):=\sum_{n=1}^\infty \frac{q^n}{n^{a-1}(1-q^n)} \] are the \(q\)-brackets of \(f_{a,t}\). Using the properties of Eichler integrals, the authors find that for even \(a\geq 2\) these \(q\)-brackets are natural pieces of weight \(2-a\) sesquiharmonic and harmonic Maass forms, while for odd \(a\leq -1\), they are holomorphic quantum modular forms. The authors consider these results to obtain new formulas of Chowla-Selberg type, and asymptotic expansions involving values of the Riemann zeta-function and Bernoulli numbers.
