The authors prove that over a connected supertropical semifield, two nonconstant polynomials in one indeterminate are not relatively prime if and only if they have a common tangible root. They compute the resultant of two polynomials in terms of the roots of the polynomials, leading to another characterization of relatively prime polynomials and a supertropical version of Bézout's theorem.
