The authors consider a second-order ODEs system which admits a general matrix form and study its stability properties in relation with the notion of matrix stability. Two questions are given and answered: (1) What are the conditions ensuring the stability of the given system? (2) What are the conditions ensuring the minimal decay rate being positive? Note that minimal decay rate is a parameter that represents the rate of exponential decay of oscillations of the system of differential equations. New stability conditions are provided. Furthermore, the stability of a parameter-dependent second-order model is analyzed.
