In this paper, the author studies a family of cubic, with respect to the first derivative, second-order ordinary differential equations of the form \[ y_{xx} +a_{3}(x,y)y_{x}^{3}+a_{2}(x,y)y_{x}^{2}+a_{1}(x,y)y_{x}+a_{0}(x,y)=0, \tag{1} \] where \( a_{i}(x,y), i=0,1,2,3, \) are sufficiently smooth arbitrary functions that do not vanish simultaneously. Various nonlinear oscillators of Rayleigh and Van der Pol types and travelling wave reductions of nonlinear heat and diffusion equations belong to (1). Consequently, integrability of (1) and its particular cases has been considered in various works. The linearizability condition for (1) via the transformations \[ \omega=F(x,y), d\xi=(G_{1}(x,y)y_{x}+G_{2}(x,y))dx, \tag{2} \] where \( F,G_{1} \) and \( G_{2} \) are sufficiently smooth functions such that \( F_{y}G_{1,y}G_{2,y}\neq 0, \) is studied. Necessary and sufficient conditions for members of (1) to be equivalent to one of Painlevé equations is constructed. The author studies the equvalence problem for (1) and the harmonic oscillator \[ \omega_{\xi\xi}+w^{2}\omega=0, \tag{3} \] where \( w\neq 0 \) is an arbitrary parameter. He explicitly constructs linearizability criteria for (1) for some particular cases of (2). The general solution in the parametric form of a linearizable equation from (1) can be obtained with the help of the general solution of (3). Furthermore, the author demonstrates that an equation from (1) is linearizable to (3) if and only if it has a Lax representation with a certain \( L \) matrix. Hence, the concept of Lax integrability can be extended to a wide class of dissipative systems. The results in this article are illustrated by several examples of linearizable equations, including a non-autonomous generalization of the Rayleigh-Duffing oscillator, a family of chemical oscillators and a generalized Duffing-Van der Pol oscillator.
