In this paper, the author discusses a new method of reduction of gauge symmetries, which is called the dressing field method, recently discovered mainly by \textit{J. Attard} et al. [J. Geom. Phys. 148, Article ID 103541, 24 p. (2020; Zbl 1435.53058)]. In this approach, one introduces into a theory a certain auxiliary field, which does not belong to the original space of fields of the given gauge theory, and then a change of variables is made such that we obtain new fields (called dressed fields), which are a combination of the original gauge fields and the dressing field. The dressed fields are then the new variables of the theory. In favorable situations these new fields are invariant under the action of a Lie subgroup of the structure group G. The author's approach has a purely geometric flavor, using the usual techniques of principal bundles and connections, as opposed to the original by J. Attard et al., which was more algebraic.
