The authors apply the method of \textit{L. A. Fil'shtinskiij} [Sov. Phys., Dokl. 12, 739--741 (1967; Zbl 0159.56101); translation from Dokl. Akad. Nauk SSSR 175, 312--314 (1967)] to address the Gurtin-Murdoch boundary value problem of antiplane elasticity for a doubly periodic array of disks. Following Filshtinsky, they use a series representation of complex potentials through Weierstrass elliptic functions. This series is then substituted into the boundary conditions, yielding an infinite system of linear algebraic equations, as per Filshtinsky's methodology. The method of truncation is applied, and numerical examples are considered. The authors believe that the method of functional equations is the same as Filshtinsky's technique. Consequently, when evaluating the numerical examples, they compare the results with previously obtained approximate numerical solutions for perfect contact, not with the known exact solutions derived by the method of functional equations.
