A sequence \((x_n)\) in a CAT(0) space \(X\) is said to converge weakly to a point \(x \in X\) if for every compact geodesic \(c\) starting at \(x\), the closest point projections of \(x_n\) in \(c\) converge to \(x\). The authors show that there is a unique topology \(\mathcal{T}_\Delta\) on \(X\) such that: (1) A sequence \((x_n)\) converges to \(x\in X\) with respect to \(\mathcal{T}_\Delta\) if and only if the sequence is bounded and converges to \(x\) weakly; (2) A subset of \(X\) is \(\mathcal{T}_\Delta\)-closed whenever it contains the \(\mathcal{T}_\Delta\)-limit points of any sequence of its elements. On the other hand, in general, there is no topology on a CAT(0) space which induces the weak convergence of nets. In addition, the authors relate the weak topology \(\mathcal{T}_\Delta\) to the coconvex topology introduced in [\textit{N. Monod}, J. Am. Math. Soc. 19, No. 4, 781--814 (2006; Zbl 1105.22006)]. They prove that although the weak topology is generally finer than the coconvex topology, the two topologies agree in certain instances.
