The authors use a tangent groupoid construction to define an analytic index morphism for a twisted Lie groupoid. The definition allows them to prove an index theorem (analytic index equals topological index, where the latter is defined as in \textit{A. Connes} and \textit{G. Skandalis} [Publ. Res. Inst. Math. Sci. 20, 1139--1183 (1984; Zbl 0575.58030)]) for a regular foliation with a twisting on its leaf space. This theorem generalizes the theorem of \textit{A. Connes} and \textit{G. Skandalis} [loc. cit.] for foliations without twisting and the theorem of \textit{V. Mathai, R. B. Melrose} and \textit{I. M. Singer} [Geom. Topol. 9, 341--373 (2005; Zbl 1083.58021)] for fibrations with torsion twistings. The authors end the paper by developing push-forward maps, geometric cycles, and an assembly map in the setting of foliations with twistings. As suggested by [\textit{A. Connes}, Noncommutative geometry. San Diego, CA: Academic Press. (1994; Zbl 0818.46076)], the constructions rely on strict deformation quantization associated with the Connes tangent groupoid rather than on a longitudinal pseudodifferential calculus, as was used by \textit{A. Connes} and \textit{G. Skandalis} [loc. cit.] in the untwisted case.
