The paper focuses on a kinetic model that describes the interaction between a gas and radiation, particularly under the condition where the interaction between the gas and photons occurs much faster than the collisions between the gas molecules themselves. The author utilizes the Boltzmann equation coupled with the radiative transfer operator and explores a scaling limit, leading to a novel kinetic equation for which a well-posedness theory is considered. The solutions of the limit problem in the homogeneous case are shown to solve this new kinetic equation. The proof of convergence to the new kinetic equation involves analyzing the dynamics of the gas-photon system near the slow manifold of steady states. The paper contributes to the understanding of radiative gases, providing insights into their behavior and the interactions between gas molecules and radiation, especially for the behavior of radiative gases under dominant photon interactions.
