In order to identify orders of convergence that may be obtained by approximations from shift-invariant spaces, polynomial reproducing properties are of the essence. One has to ask which polynomials are in the space (that can then be reproduced by suitable approximation operators, e.g., quasi-interpolation of the Schoenberg-type and generalisations). There is a variety of approaches to solving this question, e.g., by forming so-called quasi-interpolants coming from these spaces or by studying properties of generators of the spaces. One way to carry this out is to compute Fourier transforms of the generating functions and apply the so-called Strang and Fix conditions. They identify the connection between function values and derivatives of the mentioned Fourier transforms at \(2\pi\)-multiples of multiintegers and the polynomials that are contained in the real space. In this article, an alternative criterion to that of Holtz and Ron is established by requiring asymptotic properties of the mentioned Fourier transforms in vicinities of \(2\pi\)-multiples of multiintegers \textit{and} requiring the asymptotic values to satisfy a weighted \(\ell^2\) summability criterion. This replaces the square-summability of weights times squares of maxima of the Fourier transforms' values, in a neighbourhood of each \(2\pi\)-multiple of multiintegers -- as is needed in Holtz and Ron's results. This authors remark that those conditions are equivalent but theirs may be easier to verify.
