Let \(\mathcal{T}\) be the class of finitely generated torsion-free nilpotent groups. Let \(G \in \mathcal{T}\) and let \(F(G)\) be the set of isomorphism classes of finite quotients of \(G\). The genus \(\mathfrak{g}(G)\) of \(G\) is the set of isomorphism classes of \(\mathcal{T}\)-groups \(H\) with \(F(G)=F(H)\). In [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 160, 327--341 (1971; Zbl 0235.20027)], \textit{P. F. Pickel} proved that if \(G \in \mathcal{T}\), then \(\mathfrak{g}(G)\) is finite. In the paper under review, the authors give an explicit description of the sets \(\mathfrak{g}(G)\) for \(\mathcal{T}\)-groups of Hirsch length at most 5. Based on this, they show that for each Hirsch length \(n \geq 4\) and for each \(m \in \mathbb{N}\) there is a \(\mathcal{T}\)-group \(G\) of Hirsch length \(n\) with \(|\mathfrak{g}(G)| \geq m\).
