Let \(G\) be a complex linear algebraic group and \(V\) a finite dimensional complex vector space. A rational representation of \(G\) on \(V\) is a rational map of algebraic varieties \(\rho \colon G\to \mathrm{GL}(V)\). The triple \((G,\rho, V)\) is called a prehomogeneous vector space if there exists a proper closed algebraic subset \(S\) of \(V\) such that \(V-S\) is a single orbit. Let \(V=\mathbb{C}^n\), \(G=\mathrm{GL}(V)=\mathrm{GL}(n,\mathbb{C})\). Let \(p(x)=p(x_1,\ldots,x_n)\) be a homogeneous polynomial and \[ G_0[p]=\{g\in \mathrm{GL}(V),\;\; g\cdot p(x)=p(x)\}, \] i.e., \(G_0\) is the stabilizer of \(p(x)\) with the natural action of \(GL(V)\) on the set of homogeneous polynomials. Let also \(G[p]=\mathrm{GL}(1,\mathbb{C}) \times \mathrm{G}_0[p]\). \(G[p]\) is an algebraic subgroup of \(\mathrm{GL}(n,\mathbb{C})\) and \(p(x)\) is relatively invariant under the action of \(\mathrm{G}[p]\), i.e., for any \(g\in \mathrm{G}[p]\), \(g \cdot p(x)=\lambda p[(x)\), for some \(\lambda \in \mathbb{C}\). In this paper the authors investigate when the triplet \((G[p], \rho, V)\), where \(\rho\) is the inclusion of \(G[p]\) in \(\mathrm{GL}(n,\mathbb{C})\), is a prehomogeneous vector space in the case when \(p(x)\) is a homogeneous polynomial of degree three constructed in a combinatorial way from figures made up of triangles. They obtain criteria when this happens and give many examples.
