The authors study a two-dimensional time-independent magnetohydrodynamic system (cf. Eq. (1), p. 1022), and construct classes of exact solutions. In order to achieve the reduction to a canonical third-order nonlinear equation subject to a constrain, they apply a geometric decomposition, which has been previously applied in areas of nonlinear mechanics and soliton theory, and was developed by \textit{A. W. Marris} and \textit{S. L. Passman} [Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal. 32, 29--86 (1969; Zbl 0167.54601)]. The authors complement their previous work [Z. Angew. Math. Phys. 60, No. 4, 608--620 (2009; Zbl 1169.76061)] and apply an internal geometric formulation. They also make the connection with the kinematic conditions for certain steady two-dimensional motions of fibre-reinforced viscous fluids.
