``The classical formulation of Plateau's problem reads: Does there exist a disc of least area spanning a given closed curve \(\Gamma\) in \(\mathbb{R}^n\)?'' The author presents a short review of the background of work on this problem in Section 1.1. As stated in the abstract, ``We give a solution of Plateau's problem for singular curves possibly having self-intersections.'' The author mentions that the following main result makes use of work in [\textit{A. Lytchak} and \textit{S. Wenger}, Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal. 223, No. 3, 1123--1182 (2017; Zbl 1369.49057)]. Theorem. Let \(\Gamma\) be a closed rectifiable curve in \(\mathbb{R}^n\) possibly having self-intersections. Then there exists \(p>2\) and a Sobolev disc \(u\in W^{1,p}(D^2,\mathbb{R}^n)\) spanning \(\Gamma\) of least area among all the discs \(v\in W^{1,p}(D^2,\mathbb{R}^n)\) spanning \(\Gamma\). One may choose \(u\) locally \(\alpha\)-Hölder continuous on \(D^2\) and globally \(\beta\)-Hölder continuous on \(\overline D^2\) where \(\alpha=\frac{1}{3}\) and \(\beta=\frac{1}{27}\). The paper gives some other similar results. The definition of Sobolev discs and hence of the set \(W^{1,p}(D^2,\mathbb{R}^n)\) is given in Section 2.
