In the spirit of the positive mass theorem the authors prove results about Riemannian manifolds with a single asymptotically Euclidean fibered end. More precisely, let \(M\) be an \(n\)-dimensional manifold and \(X\) a \(k\)-dimensional connected compact manifold. We say that \(M\) admits a single \textit{fibered end} if up to a compact interior domain \(K\subset M\) it has the form \(({\mathbb R}^{n-k}\setminus B_R(0))\times X\), called the \textit{end} (of \(M\)). Likewise we say that a complete Riemannian manifold \((M,g)\) admits a single \textit{asymptotically Euclidean fibered end} if \(M\) is as before and the metric along its end has the form \(g_{{\mathbb R}^{n-k}}+g_X\) where \(g_{{\mathbb R}^{n-k}}\) is a metric on \({\mathbb R}^{n-k}\) sufficiently close to and decaying appropriately fast to the standard Euclidean metric while \(g_X\) is a metric on \(X\). Note that \(M\) has a natural compactification \(M_1\) by adding an infinitely distant \(X\) to \(M\) along its end, i.e., \(M_1=M\cup X\). This is the usual one-point compactification if \(X=\mathrm{point}\), hence in particular the infinite distant \(X\subset M_1\) has a trivial normal bundle. Let \(T^m\) denote the \(m\)-torus and consider the space \(M_1\#_X(T^{n-k}\times X)\) obtained by cutting out a tubular neighbourhood of the infinitely distant \(X\) from \(M_1\) and gluing back a \((T^{n-k}\setminus B_\varepsilon (p))\times X\) along the resulting boundary which is \(S^{n-k-1}\times X\). The authors establish several relations between the existence and non-negativity of the ADM mass of the original space \((M,g)\) and the existence of metrics with positive scalar curvature on the compactified one \(M_1\#_X(T^{n-k}\times X)\) (see Theorems 1 and 3 and Corollary 4 in the paper). Special attention is paid to the case of zero ADM mass in which case \((M,g)=({\mathbb R}^{n-k}\times X, \eta +g_X)\) where \(\eta\) is the standard Euclidean metric.
