In [Buildings of spherical type and finite BN-pairs. Berlin-Heidelberg-New York: Springer-Verlag (1974; Zbl 0295.20047)], \textit{J. Tits} gave a complete classification of all thick irreducible spherical buildings of rank at least 3. The main tool in this classification is the extension theorem for local isometries between two spherical buildings. Twin buildings are natural generalizations of spherical buildings because there is an opposition relation on the set of its chambers. The second author and \textit{M. Ronan} in [Invent. Math. 122, No. 1, 71--81 (1995; Zbl 0854.51009)] proved that, under the condition \(\mathsf{(co)}\), the extension theorem for local isometries can be generalized to 2-spherical twin buildings. In the paper under review, the authors introduce a condition for twin buildings that we call wall-connected (see Definition 4.9, which is too technical to be reported here). They show that the local-to-global principle holds for these twin buildings. As each twin building satisfying condition \(\mathsf{(co)}\) is wall-connected, they obtain a strengthening of the main result of the second author and Ronan [loc. cit.] that covers also the thick irreducible affine twin buildings of rank at least 3.
