Let us consider a subset \(A\) of the Riemann sphere and suppose that it is moving under a holomorphic motion. An interesting problem is to describe the variation of Minkowski, packing and Hausdorff dimensions of \(A\) under this motion, as well as the variation of its area. The authors give an explicit answer to this problem: Theorems 1.3 and 1.4 are on the Minkowski and the packing dimension, respectively, whereas Theorem 1.6 is on the Hausdorff dimension, which, is a weaker statement than of those of the previous theorems. However, their Theorem 1.7 together with Theorem 1.4 yield a complete characterization of the variation of the packing dimension of a set moving under a holomorphic motion. Theorem 1.9 is on the variation of area. The above results are obtained by using a method which provides an approach that relies on a variety of well-known results about quasiconformal mappings, as the ones by \textit{K. Astala} [Acta Math. 173, No. 1, 37--60 (1994; Zbl 0815.30015), Theorem 1.11] on the distortion of area and dimension under quasiconformal mappings and the work of \textit{S. Smirnov} [Acta Math. 205, No. 1, 189--197 (2010; Zbl 1211.30037), Theorem 1.12] on the dimension of quasicircles.
