Let \(\mathcal{P}_{n}\) denote the set of all polynomials \(p\in \mathbb{R}[X]\) such that \(p(A)\) is (entrywise) nonnegative whenever \(A\) is an \(n\times n\) nonnegative matrix. Let \(\mathcal{P}_{n,m}\) be the subset of \(\mathcal{P} _{n}\) consisting of polynomials with \(\deg p\leq m\). The author proves that \( \mathcal{P}_{n+1}\) is strictly smaller than \(\mathcal{P}_{n}\) for each \(n\), as conjectured in [\textit{B. J. Clark} and \textit{P. Paparella}, Linear Algebra Appl. 637, 110--118 (2022; Zbl 1482.15011)]. He also proves that for all \(m\geq 4\) the set \(\mathcal{P}_{2,m}\) is not polyhedral.
