This paper outlines the project of editing a legacy of over 6000 documents, the ``legato Itala Cremona Cozzolino'', at the library of the Mazzini Institute of Genoa, mainly consisting of Cremona's correspondence (a list attached at the end of the paper). These documents gives us a general view over Luigi Cremona's life, between mathematics and politics. He was in the second half of the 19-th century the founder (or at least one of the main forerunners) of the italian school of algebraic geometry, and, at the same time, a true patriot, who became a member of the Italian Senate and, for one month, also the Italian Minister of Education.
