This is the second edition of the book [The Lie theory of connected pro-Lie groups. A structure theory for pro-Lie algebras, pro-Lie groups, and connected locally compact groups. Zürich: European Mathematical Society (EMS) (2007; Zbl 1153.22006)], whose exquisitely detailed review we would like to refer. In the preface of the given edition, the authors explain the need for the name change with three reasons: \begin{itemize} \item ``It makes it clearer that this book is a sequel to [\textit{K. H. Hofmann} and \textit{S. A. Morris}, The structure of compact groups. A primer for the student. A handbook for the expert. 5th edition. Berlin: De Gruyter (2023; Zbl 1524.22002)]''. \item ``our aim is to describe the topological and the algebraic structure of pro-Lie groups (which is achieved using Lie theory)''. \item ``the results described in the first edition were restricted to the case of connected pro-Lie groups whereas the results in this edition cover \textit{almost} connected pro-Lie groups''. \end{itemize} On the other hand, the authors enriched the material with an enlarged Appendix on weakly complete topological vector spaces. They also reorganized several chapters of the first edition. They added new results published in the area of pro-Lie theory since the publication of the first book. As the reviewer of the first edition described, ``the book contains a thorough treatment of the structure of connected pro-Lie groups'' and it is not only a self-contained research monograph collecting the whole theory, but also a well organized textbook for the interested reader working on group theory, Lie groups, pro-Lie groups and topological groups.
