Let \( \alpha \geq 2\pi \) and \(a\in [0,1)\). In 2003, the fractional Stieljes constants \(\gamma_\alpha(a)\) were introduced by \textit{R. Kreminski} [Math. Comput. 72, No. 243, 1379--1397 (2003; Zbl 1033.11043)]. These constants have several interesting and unexpected applications in the zeta function theory. In the paper under review, the authors improve the bounds for \(\gamma_\alpha(a)\) using the method of steepest descent that was applied in 2011 by \textit{C. Knessl} and \textit{M. W. Coffey} in order to approximate these constants [Math. Comput. 80, No. 273, 379--386 (2011; Zbl 1208.41020)]. More precisely, the authors prove the following: Let \(C_\alpha(a)=\gamma_\alpha(a)-\frac{\log^\alpha(a)}{a}\) and \(w(\alpha)=W_0(\frac{\alpha i}{2\pi})\), where \(W_0\) is the principal branch of the Lambert \(W\) function, then \[ \left|C_\alpha(a)\right|\leq \alpha^2 +\frac{3}{4}\alpha^2 \log \alpha \cdot \left|e^{\alpha\left(\log w(\alpha)-\frac{1}{w(\alpha)}\right)}\right|. \]
