Let \(k\) be an algebraically closed field of characteristic \(p>0\), and let \(G\) be a finite group of order divisible by \(p\). \textit{P. Fleischmann} et al. [Manuscr. Math. 80, No. 2, 213--224 (1993; Zbl 0820.20025)] have proved that \(\text{HH}^1(kG)\), the first Hochschild cohomology group of the group algebra \(kG\), is nonzero. It has been asked whether there is an analog of this result for \(p\)-blocks of positive defect in finite groups. The main result of the paper under review is a step in this direction. It shows that \(\text{HH}^1(k_\alpha G) \ne 0\) for every finite simple group \(G\) of order divisible by \(p\) and every twisted group algebra \(k_\alpha G\) of \(G\) over \(k\). The proof makes use of the classification of finite simple groups. The paper also contains tables with many examples.
