The application of the R-functions to the solution of problems of bending of layered shells is considered. It is shown that the R-functions together with the Ritz variational method makes it possible solving a broad range of problems of bending of shallow shells on elastic foundations. It is assumed that the lower and upper layers of such shells are made of functionally graded materials and the filler is made of an isotropic material (metal or ceramic). The effective elastic properties of the functionally graded materials of shells vary according to the power law. Analytic expressions are obtained for the modulus of elasticity and density of the materials, which depend on temperature. The Timoshenko-type theory that takes into account the bending strains is used also. The problems of bending of three-layer shells of complex geometric shape, for example, containing a hole in the form of a hexagon, were solved. The solutions of the test problems confirm the reliability and efficiency of the proposed approach.
