The structure of the representation and character varieties of the group of a torus knot into certain Lie groups, such as \(SL_n(\mathbb{C})\), \(n\geq2\), have been widely studied and determined recently. In this paper, the authors study representations of torus knot groups into \(SL(2,\mathbb{C})\). Among other things, they give a simple proof of the fact that the image of any \(SL(2,\mathbb{C})\)-representation of the knot complement has torsion elements and determine explicitly the irreducible components of the sets of abelian, of reducible non-abelian and of irreducible non-abelian representations as well as some of their ideals. In the last section they use these decompositions in order to present a complete description of the character variety of the group of torus knots.
