The authors study the spectrum of the magnetic Dirac operator and the magnetic Dirac operator with potential over complete Riemannian manifolds. They find sufficient conditions on the potentials as well as on the manifold so that the spectrum is either maximal or discrete. They also show that magnetic Dirac operators can have a dense set of eigenvalues. This work can be considered as an extension of previous studies of spectral properties of magnetic Schrödinger operators on Euclidean space [\textit{O. Yamada}, Hokkaido Math. J. 26, No. 2, 439--449 (1997; Zbl 0882.35084); \textit{H. L. Cycon} et al., Schrödinger operators, with application to quantum mechanics and global geometry. Springer Study edition. Berlin etc.: Springer-Verlag (1987; Zbl 0619.47005); \textit{B. Helffer}, Semi-classical analysis for the Schrödinger operator and applications. Berlin etc.: Springer-Verlag (1988; Zbl 0647.35002)] and on manifolds [\textit{I. Shigekawa}, J. Funct. Anal. 75, 92--127 (1987; Zbl 0629.58023); \textit{M. Shubin}, J. Funct. Anal. 186, No. 1, 92--116 (2001; Zbl 0997.58021)]. The authors' results demonstrate that the vast variability in the behavior of the spectrum of Schrödinger operators can be generalized to magnetic Dirac operators with potential over complete manifolds.
