In the modern theory of integrable systems, it is important to study the spectral transform for matrix-valued functions varying rationally with a spectral variable. Given that the spectral transform is symplectic with respect to the natural symplectic structures on the target and the source. The authors analyze symplectic aspects of the spectral transform for matrix-values rational function with simple poles. The authors give expressions for both the symplectic potential and the associated symplectic form. In particular, they obtain an expression for the reduced symplectic form. Their proof mainly uses the variational formulas for the Szegő kernel to construct a new system of action-angle variables for the canonical symplectic form on the space of the rational functions mentioned above. Furthermore, the vector of Riemann constants is proved to be the gradient of some function on the moduli space of spectral curves.
