Let \(G\) be a group of automorphisms of a nontrivial group \(V\). The action of \(G\) on \(V\) is said to be `free' if \(v^g\neq v\) for every nontrivial \(g\in G\) and every nontrivial \(v\in V\). In this paper the author generalizes the following result by \textit{E. Jabara} and \textit{P. Mayr} [Forum Math. 21, No. 2, 217-220 (2009; Zbl 1177.20041)]: if a group \(G\) has finite exponent \(e\) dividing \(2^m\cdot 9\) and \(G\) acts freely on an Abelian group, then \(G\) is finite and \(|G|\in\{e,2e\}\). The main theorem is devoted to describe in detail the structure of \(\{2,3\}\)-groups without elements of order \(27\) acting freely on an Abelian group; in particular it is proved that such groups are locally finite.
