This review presents a mathematician's point of view on the features of the Ising model on a 3D lattice with a special highlight of the results obtained by Hugo Duminil-Copin who was awarded the Fields Medal in 2022. The overview starts with a short historical introduction explaining the emergence of the Ising system as a model for the physical problem of phase transitions but pointing out the construction of objects (with special attention to the Gibbs measures) under consideration when analyzing the mathematical model. This part can be of interest to both physical and mathematical communities since the explanation uses a narrative sufficiently accessible for physicists interested in what mathematicians think about the important model of condensed matter physics and, simultaneously, the introduction of mathematical concepts does not lose the meaning of actual physical quantities. The second part is devoted more particularly to the set of theorems proved by Hugo Duminil-Copin and his collaborators respectively to Potts' and Ising's models with denoting principal contours of approaches led to the proofs. The overview is finalized with suggestions for further reading and some directions of attractiveness in the related field of phase transition modelling. For the entire collection see [Zbl 07816355].
