The authors study nonoscillatory solutions of the sublinear Emden-Fowler equation \[ x''(t)+q(t)|x(t)|^{\gamma } \text{sgn\,} x(t) = 0 , \quad 0<\gamma < 1, \] where \(q: [a,\infty )\rightarrow (0,\infty )\), \(a>0\), is continuous, in the framework of regular variation [cf. \textit{N. H. Bingham, C. M. Goldie} and \textit{J. L. Teugels}, Regular variation. Encyclopedia of Mathematics and its applications, Vol. 27. Cambridge etc.: Cambridge University Press (1987; Zbl 0617.26001)]. By assuming that \(q(t)\) is regularly varying, necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of nontrivial regularly varying solutions are presented and the precise asymptotic behavior for \(t\to \infty\) of these is obtained. Remark of the reviewer: In Theorem 1.1 \(f(x)\) is negative, while in Theorem 1.2 \(f(x)\) is of arbitrary sign.
