The aim of this paper is to construct and study non equilibrium steady states for systems containing quantum wells, and to describe the quantum transport of electrons through them. In the Hilbert space \(L^2(\mathbb R)\) is considered the Schrödinger operator \[ (H)(x):= -\frac{1}{2} \frac{d}{dx} \frac{1}{M(x)} \frac{d}{dx} f(x)+V(x)f(x), \quad x\in\mathbb R, \] with the domain \[ \text{Dom}(H):= \big(f\in W^{1,2}(\mathbb R): \tfrac{1}{M}f'\in W^{1,2}(\mathbb R)\big). \] It is assumed that the effective mass \(M(x)\) and real potential \(V(x)\) admit decomposition. The authors give the sufficient condition in order to define a steady state for the system \((L^2(\mathbb R),H)\).
