This paper deals with an inverse scattering problem for inhomogeneous media. The authors are also concerned with two approximation methods and with the numerical treatment of these problems. The first method can be seen as a straightforward solution of the discretization schemes arisen from the scattering problem. This method is based on a minimization problem and, due to the large number of variables, it is usually inefficient. The second method is again based on a minimization problem, but it has a lower number of variables with respect to the first one. These methods are tested by some numerical experiments in the final section of this paper.
