Let \(R\) be a non-commutative ring. The code alphabet \(A\) is a finite left \(R\)-module and a left linear code \(C\) over \(A\) is a left \(R\) submodule \(C\subset A^n.\) In general, the dual code of a left linear code is a right linear code. Since left submodules over non-commutative rings are not right submodules, the duality of modules is more complicated than in the commutative ring case. \textit{G. Nebe, E. M. Rains} and \textit{N. J. A. Sloane} [Self-dual codes and invariant theory. Algorithms and Computation in Mathematics 17. Berlin: Springer (2006; Zbl 1173.94447)] realized that if \(R\) and \(A\) have some additional properties then the dual code of \(C\) can be defined as a left module. Here the author studies the above defined dual codes over non-commutative rings and shows that these have the standard properties (e.g. the MacWilliams identities). A number of examples of finite rings admitting an anti-isomorphism are also discussed.
