A parachute for the degree of a polynomial in algebraically independent ones (Q623323)

The author proves a more general version of some of the results in the important work of \textit{I. P. Shestakov} and \textit{U. U. Umirbaev} [J. Am. Math. Soc. 17, No. 1, 197--227 (2004; Zbl 1056.14085)] as well as somewhat simpler proofs. The results are a bit technical, but in particular the tameness of automorphisms in two variables is reproved. This was originally a result of \textit{H. W. E. Jung} [J. Reine Angew. Math. 184, 199--237 (1942; Zbl 0027.13101)] and \textit{W. van der Kulk} [Nieuw Arch. Wiskd., III. Ser. 1, 33--41 (1953; Zbl 0050.26002)].
