The concept of Schwartz group generalizes the well known notion of Schwartz locally convex space. All nuclear groups as well the Pontryagin dual groups of metrizable topological Abelian groups are Schwartz groups. The authors prove that a (resp. metrizable separable) locally quasi-convex group is a Schwartz group iff every continuously convergent filter (resp. sequence) on its dual group converges locally uniformly. They also prove that a metrizable separable locally quasiconvex group \(G\) is a Schwartz group iff every continuous homomorphism \(\phi : G \to c_0 (\mathbb{T})\) is a compact homomorphism. The question whether the last assertion remains true without the separability assumption is left open.
