The classical Schwarz-Pick lemma in one dimensional complex analysis gives an estimate of the modulus of the complex derivative of a holomorphic function on the unit disc at any given point by means of the values of the function itself at this point. This useful tool has many generalizations especially in several complex variables, part of which are listed in the bibliography of the reviewed article. In this paper, Schwarz-Pick estimates of arbitrary order partial derivatives for holomorphic mappings from the polydisc to the unit ball are presented. The following inequality is proved: Let \(\varphi\) be a function from the unit polydisc in dimension \(n\) to the unit ball in dimension \(N\). Then \[ |\partial^{m} \varphi(z)|\leq m!\frac{(1-|\varphi(z)|^2)^{1/2}(1+\max_{i=1 .. n}|z_{i}|)^{|m|-n}}{(1-\max_{i=1 .. n}|z_{i}|^2)^{|m|}}\,, \] where \(m\) is a multi-index. In the special case when \(n=N=1\) and \(m=1\), one obtains a version of the classical Schwarz-Pick lemma. A modified version of the above estimate is provided in the case when some of the indices of the multi-index are zero. The optimality of the estimate and the question what happens when equality occurs are not pursued in this paper.
