Let \(n, d, d^\prime, g\) be positive integers, \(\mathbb{C}^{d^\prime\times d}\) denote the \(d^\prime \times d\) matrices with complex coefficients and \((\mathbb{C}^{n\times n})^g\) be the set of \(g\)-tuples of \(n \times n\) matrices. For \(A_1,\dots, A_g \in \mathbb{C}^{d^\prime\times d}\), the expression \(L(x) =\sum_{j=1}^gA_jx_j\) is a homogeneous linear pencil. Given \(X = \text{col}(X_1,\dots, X_g) \in (\mathbb{C}^{n\times n})^g\), define \(L(X) =\sum_{j=1}^gA_j\otimes X_j\). Let \(\mathcal{B}_L(n) = \{X \in (\mathbb{C}^{n\times n})^g: \|L(X)\|< 1\}\) and let \(\mathcal{B}_L\) denote the sequence \((\mathcal{B}_L(n))_{n\in\mathbb{N}}\). Similarly, let \(M_{\ell^\prime,\ell}=(\mathbb{C}^{n\times n})^{\ell^\prime\times \ell}_{n\in\mathbb{N}}\). The authors describe analytic mappings \(f\) from the pencil ball \(\mathcal{B}_L\) to \(M_{\ell^\prime,\ell}\) that preserve the boundary in a specific sense. They show that every \(\mathcal{B}_L\) has a minimal dimensional defining pencil. To prove the main result, they use the results of \textit{J.\,W.\thinspace Helton, I.\,Klep, S.\,McCullough} and \textit{N.\,Slinglend} [J.~Funct.\ Anal.\ 257, No.\,1, 47--87 (2009; Zbl 1179.47012)] as well as some completely contractive map techniques.
