Spline curves are useful piecewise polynomial approximations to function values, derivatives, prescribed curvatures or other shape parameters. The author uses twice geometrically continuous planar curves to approximate such data, where the derivative or curvature information may be prescribed or may have to be computed with the approximating algorithms. The methods used in this article are interpolatory, i.e., the function values are met at the points as given. The polynomials are restricted to be cubic and only geometric conditions, e.g., on the curvature, are given such that the described spline curves exist for the provided data.
