A general type of twisted anomaly cancellation formulas (Q625771)

In 1983, \textit{L. Alvarez-Gaume} and \textit{E. Witten} discovered the miraculous cancellation formula which is a relation between the top components of the Hirzebruch \(L\)-class and \(\widehat{A}\)-class of a 12-dimensional manifold. \textit{K. Liu} [Commun. Math. Phys. 174, No.~1, 29--42 (1995; Zbl 0867.57021)] generalized the miraculous cancellation formula to an \((8k+4)\)-dimensional manifold by using modular invariance properties of characteristic forms. \textit{F. Han} and \textit{W. Zhang} [J. Differ. Geom. 67, No.~2, 257--288 (2004; Zbl 1132.58014)] obtained a generalized miraculous cancellation formula for an \((8k+4)\)-dimensional manifold with a complex line bundle involved. \textit{F. Han} and \textit{X. Huang} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 359, No.~11, 5365--5381 (2007; Zbl 1151.53032)] obtained a generalized miraculous cancellation formula for an \((8k+2)\)- or \((8k+6)\)-dimensional manifold with a complex line bundle involved. \textit{F. Han} and \textit{Q. Chen} [ibid. 361, No.~3, 1463--1493 (2009; Zbl 1168.58009)] computed the transgressed forms of some modular invariant characteristic forms which are related to elliptic genera and obtained a cancellation formula for an 11-dimensional manifold. The paper under review establishes more general cancellation formulas for some even- and odd-dimensional manifolds which generalize the work mentioned above. The proof here is similar to the proofs in the works mentioned above.
